4 times enjoying the blooming heath

In these nature reserves in Lommel, you don't have to look far to find the purple flowers. They provide a beautiful setting for a walk or bike ride. The heath blooms from mid-August to mid-September.

Heuvelse Heide

The Heuvelse Heide is a small, hidden heath gem with a water pond near Lommel-Kolonie. The walking area alternates between sand, forest, water, and heath. Plenty of variety! The irrigation canal De Grote Fossé flows along the heath area and the forests of the Heuvelse Heide.

Kattenbos

At Kattenbos, you walk along breathtaking heath landscapes, a giant butterfly, and fairy-tale play elements. The Butterfly Walk of 2.2 kilometers is easily accessible with a stroller and wheelchair. You can also enjoy the heath on horseback on one of the 5 routes.

Blekerheide

The pedestrian bridge over the Bocholt-Herentals Canal is the graceful steel gateway to the beautifully expansive Blekerheide.

Walking tip: Stroll through the blooming heath in Lommel

This 17.5-kilometre hike in the Bosland National Park takes you to some hidden heathland spots in Lommel. You start at the Leyssensmolen car park in Kattenbos, then head through the Meysterbergen to the Mariapark and Waaltjesbos, finishing at the heathland in Kattenbos.
