Watch Tower the Giant of Bosland

If you want to see the Lommel Sahara from the air, you can do so with your own eyes from the 30-meter high observation tower. 'The Giant of Bosland' not only looks very imposing, but also gives an impressive view of the Lommel area: on a clear day you can see up to 25 km far!

Want to see the Lommel Sahara from a different perspective? Then climb the 30-meter high watchtower, also called the 'The Giant of Bosland'. In clear weather you can see as far as 25 km, up to the mine tracks of Beringen and the airport of Eindhoven. You can zoom in via the observation telescope on the highest platform.

Inspired by the Sahara dunes

The architects took their inspiration for the design from the lines of the rolling sand dunes in the Sahara Desert: the ropes draped around the tower have a natural color and appearance, and are supple but at the same time relatively heavy so they sag. Wrapping it alternately tight and loose around the tower creates the lines you see everywhere you look in the Sahara.

Hiking along the watchtower

Every marked hiking trail passes by the watchtower. A quick visit is possible via the blue route, then it is about 2.5 km from the starting point.

By bicycle to the watchtower
