Want to see the Lommel Sahara from a different perspective? Then climb the 30-meter high watchtower, also called the 'The Giant of Bosland'. In clear weather you can see as far as 25 km, up to the mine tracks of Beringen and the airport of Eindhoven. You can zoom in via the observation telescope on the highest platform.
Inspired by the Sahara dunes
The architects took their inspiration for the design from the lines of the rolling sand dunes in the Sahara Desert: the ropes draped around the tower have a natural color and appearance, and are supple but at the same time relatively heavy so they sag. Wrapping it alternately tight and loose around the tower creates the lines you see everywhere you look in the Sahara.
Hiking along the watchtower
Every marked hiking trail passes by the watchtower. A quick visit is possible via the blue route, then it is about 2.5 km from the starting point.
By bicycle to the watchtower
Cycle up to the Pedestrian Bridge between bike junctions 231 and 232, dismount and park your bike on site. Walk across the Pedestrian Bridge and then follow hiking nodes 38 - 37 - 36 (700 meters).
