A visit to the 18th century Leyssens Mill should not be missing from your list! This important landmark is a corn mill with a very eventful history, and you can take that quite literally. Every year the mill is honored during the Mill Festival.
The wooden Leyssensmolen, surrounded by a green hedge and crowned with a pyramid-shaped roof, is a must-see in Kattenbos. The mill, named for the Leyssen family that operated it from 1860 to 1905, has been a protected monument since 2001. After three relocations, the last in 1964, the mill rests in this idyllic location in the midst of widespread nature. Take a seat on the lawn or at the picnic benches surrounding the mill for a cozy picnic!
Make your visit to the Leyssensmolen a complete experience by taking a walk through the beautiful Cat Forest. There is even a children's-sized walk: the Butterfly Walk.
The Leyssensmolen is not only a beautiful monument, but also a mill capable of grinding. In 1988 the mill was thoroughly restored and since then it has been grinding grain again. During the open mill days you will have the unique opportunity to see the sails turning and see the workings of the mill up close. Passionate millers will enthusiastically tell you about the rich history and craft of milling.
Don't forget to take home a bag of traditionally ground flour after your visit!
Combine your visit to the mill with a hike or mountain bike ride through Kattenbos.
On the last Sunday of May, the crafts festival the Molenfeesten takes place around the Leyssensmolen.
