Surprising piece of nature on the border between Lommel and Mol
Blauwe Kei

The Blauwe Kei

The Blauwe Kei owes its name to a large blue shale from the ice age and is known for the sassen complex. In this surprising piece of nature on the border between Lommel and Mol, land dunes, hay fields, deciduous forests, heath, fens, shallow ponds and swamps alternate.

The Blue Boulder is a beautiful hiking and biking area with its canal, old locks and Bailey Bridge. The Bailey Bridge is an emergency bridge laid by the British in 1944. It was designed in 1940, to be built, dismantled and moved in a few hours. It is one of the last original ones from World War II. This type of bridge can span up to 60 meters and is still in use worldwide. The listed old locks are still in use. They are gems of industrial archaeology and span an elevation of about 15 meters over 5 km.
