The forest owes its name to the large influx of Walloon immigrants who settled here around 1800. Looking for work, they could find work here in the local industry. In the Waaljesbos, priority is given to quiet recreation: cyclists and hikers can quietly get to know this subarea.
Tip: Follow the Nature Run routes of 5 or 10 km for a fun walk!
The forest consists of young plantations of both coniferous, deciduous, and mixed forest. You will find mainly sessile and sessile oaks. Because of the young age of the forest, the "real" forest species are missing, but who knows, maybe they will. With some luck you can even spot a nightjar or a woodlark here.
