Marina along the Canal to Beverlo
The marina De Blauwe Reiger is located along the Canal to Beverlo, a beautiful waterway with a rich history. This canal is a branch of the Bocholt-Herentals Canal and was dug in 1854, mainly for military reasons. After Belgium's independence in 1830, the garrison town of Leopoldsburg was established in Beverlo, which needed to be supplied via good waterways. Later, the canal also became important for the metal industry in Lommel.
The canal is 14.8 km long and runs from the Bocholt-Herentals Canal through Kerkhoven to Leopoldsburg. It is wide enough to turn (18 meters) and deep enough for any yacht with a draft of up to 1.90 meters.
