St. Peter's Band Church

St. Peter's Band Church puts you in heavenly spheres! A glance at this protected monument suddenly reveals the different centuries in which the church was built: the neo-Gothic nave blends beautifully with the late Gothic church tower. Here you can enjoy carillon concerts every Wednesday afternoon.

The nave from 1900 has unique stained glass windows, furniture in an appropriate style, a valuable Clerinx organ, a carillon and murals.

2nd largest carillon

Lommel has had a carillon since 2000. It consists of 63 bells or 5 octaves and is, together with the university carillon of Leuven, the second largest in our country. Peer has the largest with 64 bells. The carillon has a bass bell of 3263 kg and a total weight of 15,493 kg. In the church we also find the oldest Clerinx organ: unique in the Belgian organ landscape. The organ is the oldest extant realization by Arnold Clerinx.

Unique stained glass windows

The stained-glass window heritage is unique because all the windows were designed and executed between 1906 and 1912 by the same glazier, namely Gustaaf Ladon. He was an apprentice and master glazier at the famous Bethune-Verhaegen studio in Ghent. No fewer than 32 magnificent stained glass windows adorn St. Peter's Church.

Murals

For the murals of the church, the Liège artist Adolphe Tassin was called in. He designed a neo-Gothic total interior with beautiful colors, life-size figures and a series of extraordinarily beautiful angels. The murals were done in 1913 - 1914 after the stained glass windows were installed, so that the light and colors could be taken into account. In the 1950s, the murals were painted over a first time. The last repainting dates back to 1970. After years of research, a thorough restoration of the interior was started in early 2014. Restoration work was completed in October 2015.

Carillon

The Lommel carillon has been showing off in the highest tower of the Sint-Pietersbanden church in the city center since 2000. Every Wednesday you can hear the carillon bells ringing in the city center of Lommel, 63 in total. Carillonneur Liesbeth Janssens then conjures up the most diverse pieces of music from the impressive instrument. From modern to classical, and also folk songs, Flemish classics and pop music.
