City Hall

The city hall is an architectural masterpiece designed by architect Jo Crépain and designer Frans Van Praet. It is constructed in glass and pink travertine marble, a natural stone. It is considered one of the most modern city hall buildings.

The building consists of 3 layers, divided into 4 office wings. These are visible both inside and outside as natural stone beams, between which glass was placed. These ensure that there is sufficient light and air in every part of the building. In this way, every work and waiting area gets a pleasant view. These recesses even allow daylight to enter the basement (parking garage). After the Town Hall and the Justice of the Peace, the Town House is now Lommel's third town hall.

Glass and light travertine marble were deliberately chosen for both the exterior facades and the interior. Here the architect refers to Lommel's direct link with the light fine sand.

(Glass) art

Glass artworks from the city's glass art collection are displayed in the main reception hallway. On the upper floor is the work "Taboo in Chains" by Delphine Boël Van Saksen-Coburg and in the municipal council chamber you will find the work "Fabels van la Fontaine" by Jef Geys.

Tip: be sure to wander through this beautiful building. Everywhere are works of art by top artists such as Jef Geys and Delphine Boël, Van Saksen-Coburg,. The offices contain glass artworks from the city collection and some chickens also artfully scamper around here. Do you know which world-famous Limburg artist hatched them?
