1. Outdoor fun with a refreshing twist
Enjoy hours of outdoor fun in the shady play forests of the Sahara or let loose at the Dol-fijn outdoor playground. After all that playing, take a well-deserved break on the terrace of Brasserie De Kantine. While you enjoy a drink, the children can cool off in the free splash park next to the playground.

2. Splashing water fun
Water is the perfect remedy for hot summer days. At De Vossemeren, you decide how adventurous you want to be: waterskiing, flyboarding and Belgium’s largest aqua park, or paddleboarding, kayaking and a refreshing swim in the designated swimming area. Cooling off guaranteed!

3. Find shade in the greenery
Looking to escape the summer crowds? Bring a blanket, kick off your shoes and relax in one of Lommel’s many parks. Burgemeesterspark, Mariapark, Prinses Astridpark and Barrierspark are all wonderful places to unwind in the shade.

4. Nature as a natural air conditioner
Did you know that forests can be 4 to 6 degrees cooler than built-up areas on hot days? Head into nature and discover the refreshing woodlands of the Sahara, Heuvelse Heide or Kattenbos. Early mornings and peaceful evening walks are especially enjoyable here.

5. Cooling off in the city centre
You can also find refreshing spots in the heart of Lommel. Splash fountains at Huis van de Stad and De Vryheyt provide plenty of fun on warm days. Perfect for children to cool down during a summer stroll through the town centre.

6. Relaxing fishing by the water
Find a shady spot by the water, cast your line and enjoy the peace and quiet. In Lommel, you have two options for fishing:
- With a Flemish fishing licence, you can fish along the canal.
- With a municipal fishing permit (€5 per year), you can fish in the Barrierspark pond, part of the Grote Fossé and at the sand quarry of Heuvelse Heide.

7. Enjoy an ice cream or a terrace
Sometimes the best way to cool down is in the simple things. Treat yourself to an artisan ice cream at one of Lommel’s many ice cream parlours (find all locations on the hotspots map) or relax on a cosy terrace with a refreshing drink. The perfect ending to a warm summer day.
