Local tip: Marie and her family enjoy a winter day in Lommel

What do you do on a cold winter day in Lommel with two children who have completely different interests? One is a playful 8-year-old who loves cosy moments, while the other is an active 13-year-old who wants to keep moving all day. Marie knows from experience that it’s not always easy, but she has put together the perfect day: a mix of relaxation, action, and lots of fun.

1. Splashing and playing at De Soeverein

The morning starts around De Soeverein, where there’s something for both kids to enjoy. The eldest brings a friend and dives into the Optisport swimming pool. They don’t need much: jumping, diving, and sliding is still great fun for a thirteen-year-old! Meanwhile, the youngest can play in the playground right next to the pool. My husband and I keep an eye on them, but after four slides, a log obstacle course, and a rope pyramid, we also get a chance to relax with a warm drink.

2. Skating at the new skatepark

Next, we all head to Lommel’s new skatepark, located next to the playground. This new section of the skatepark is designed for both beginners and experienced skaters, which is perfect for our children. The eldest and his friend bring out their skateboards and teach each other new tricks, while the youngest rides around on his stunt scooter. A wonderful outdoor activity, even on a chilly winter day.

3. Hot chocolate at Baziel

Time to warm up. And where better than Baziel, the experiential bar in the centre of Lommel? This cosy café is known for its delicious, unique drinks. The hot chocolate with all sorts of flavours and toppings is always a hit! I choose a special tea blend, my husband a cappuccino with almond milk. Cozy vibes all around! We take the time to chat and plan the rest of the day.

4. Time for lunch

It’s already noon! Time for a light lunch. We walk to the cosy brasserie Talloor. There’s something for everyone. I go for the avocado and burrata toast – tasty, healthy, and vegetarian. My husband chooses the pinsa with dried ham and hummus. The kids love the croque.

5. Strike!

After sitting for a while, the eldest wants action again. At Bowling Antares, we put on the colourful bowling shoes and play a game. The youngest enjoys the bumpers, while the eldest uses his best techniques to get a strike. Bowling is perfect for all ages and skill levels. Who will score the most points?

6. Sweet treats at Crèmelien

After all that activity, a little snack is needed. Luckily, there’s a great spot nearby for something sweet: Crèmelien. Here you can enjoy the best pancakes (and ice cream, though it’s a bit cold for that today). Whether you choose a classic sugar pancake or a luxurious Kinder Bueno version, there’s something for everyone. With full bellies and wide smiles, we move on to our next activity.

7. A cosy visit to the library

The day wouldn’t be complete without a moment of calm. In the library, the youngest gets lost in a funny or exciting book, while the eldest browses for a cool board game or video game to try at home. My husband reads the newspaper, while I look for a captivating novel.

8. A tasty ending: fries from the frituur

There’s no better way to end the day than with a visit to the frituur. Everyone gets to pick their favourite snack. The perfect end to a successful day, if you ask us.

Conclusion: a perfect day for everyone

Lommel has plenty to offer for a fantastic winter day with the whole family! From swimming and skating to bowling, reading, and enjoying treats – a day full of variety, fun, and cosiness. What are you waiting for? Go out and experience this amazing day with your children!
