What is Welcome to my garden?
Welcome to my garden is a Belgian initiative that encourages sustainable travel and real connections. Hikers and cyclists can use the online platform (or app) to find a free place to pitch their tent in someone’s garden — only a (paid) membership is required. No commercial campsite, but a warm garden, a friendly smile and often a nice chat with your host.
Who is it for?
Welcome to my garden is designed for hikers and cyclists who need a place to stay along their route. It’s not a full campsite, just a safe place to spend the night. Think of it as a complement to Belgium’s network of bivouac zones. The platform is non-commercial, meaning hosts cannot charge guests for their stay.
As it’s meant for slow travellers, the spots can only be reached on foot or by bike. You can of course use public transport or a car to get to the starting point of your route, as long as you don’t arrive at your host’s garden by car.
Lommel – the perfect place to unwind
Lommel is the ideal destination for those who love peace, nature and adventure. With vast forests, open sandy landscapes and countless cycling routes, it’s a paradise for slow travellers. Whether you’re crossing the Sahara, cycling through National Park Bosland or heading towards the Dutch border, Lommel always offers a place to catch your breath.
Local Welcome to my garden hosts share this same love for nature and connection. They welcome travellers with open arms, often surrounded by greenery. This way, you experience Lommel not just as a visitor, but as part of a warm community.
A stay with a story
Sleeping in someone’s garden is more than just an overnight stay — it’s an experience. A story by the campfire, local tips for a scenic cycling route or a friendly chat over breakfast… that’s how you truly discover Lommel. And who knows, it might even inspire you to open up your own garden one day.
